Boom in electric vehicles to offer more job opportunities to electrical engineers

'In next 10 years, most of the two-wheelers and a good number of four-wheelers will run on electricity'

Mangaluru: The recent boom in demand for the Electric Vehicles (EV) and the government's focus on promoting renewable energy is expected to augment the demand for electrical engineering degree holders.

As the Electric Vehicles industry is still in the initial stage, the educational institutions and stakeholders of the EV sector feel that students completing electrical engineering are likely to get good placement in future.

“Students of our institution were shortlisted for interview in nearly 50 companies including government institutions and software firms,” SDM Institute of Technology Principal Dr. Ashok Kumar told Deccan Chronicle.

“At SDM Institute of Technology Ujire, all eligible students of electrical engineering got placement and few of them got multiple offers,” he said.

Those who are into renewable energy too are of similar opinion.

“The electrical field will definitely have bright future due to the recent boom and the Union government’s focus on renewable energy,” Rajendra Nayak, one of the founders of Icon Engineering Works said.

“The Union government is giving more focus on renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Electrical vehicles are gradually gaining popularity. In next 10 years, most of the two-wheelers and a good number of four-wheelers will run on electricity. As EVs are made up of motors and batteries those from electrical engineering background will be in great demand,” he added.
