JNTUK to do random checking of engineering colleges to ascertain infra facilities

Last year, some colleges were ordered closed for lack of facilities and lack of proper strength

KAKINADA: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Kakinada would undertake verification of the infrastructure facilities at engineering colleges under its jurisdiction on a random basis.

Usually, the verification is done in each college every year before admissions. However, due to Covid19, only random verification will be done this year.

Last year, some colleges were ordered closed for lack of such facilities and lack of proper strength. Some of them re-applied after creating the required facilities. Those colleges and some other identified colleges where loopholes have been found will be inspected before admissions this year.

The JNTUK has to form fact-finding committees (FFCs) to verify the infrastructure facilities and faculty position in the engineering colleges before it gives the nod for fresh admissions. Though the counseling date is approaching for students who qualified the AP EAPCET-2021, the JNTUK has not formed FFCs yet.

Many engineering colleges are getting ready to show their labs, faculty and other infrastructure facilities and start the campaign to attract students into their colleges.

JNTUK vice chancellor Ramalinga Raju said some colleges have applied for renewal of licence for their colleges and the FFCs would verify the facilities online and give permissions.

Meanwhile, the director of Academic Planning, V Ravindra, said college managements should upload online the facilities they have and the requirement thereof has been conveyed to them. Yet, many engineering colleges have not sent their data yet.

He said the FFCs would be formed after the colleges completed seeding the data online and there were verified. Nearly 25 colleges have applied for closure and some colleges closed last year have applied for renewal. The FFCs would verify the infrastructure facilities and faculty and then grant the permissions.
