NIF invites applicants for book fellowship

In addition to the financial stipend, NIF offers editorial and administrative guidance throughout the course of the fellowship

NEW DELHI: The Bengaluru-based New India Foundation has invited applications for the eleventh edition of its prestigious Book Fellowships. The fellowships consist of an annual stipend of Rs.18 lakh for each recipient, and supports research that documents various aspects of the dynamic Indian landscape after Independence. The last date for the submission of applications is December 31, 2022.

In addition to the financial stipend, the New India Foundation offers editorial and administrative guidance throughout the course of the fellowship, from proposal to publication. Open to Indian nationals, including those who are now living abroad, the fellowships are awarded for a period of one year. About five to 10 fellowships are awarded every two years. The NIF’s jury this year includes social scientist and author Niraja Jayal, historian Srinath Raghavan and entrepreneurs Nandan Nilekani and Manish Sabharwal.

Said Srinath Raghavan, a New India Foundation trustee: “In a very real sense, the New India Foundation believes India today is such a fascinating yet complex phenomenon that in order to be able to get a grip on where we are — and where we might be going — we need to approach through many windows and vantage points.”
