IPE exams start in AP; vice principal suspended for using phone

The Intermediate examinations began in a normal way in Nellore district, barring the suspension of a private junior college vice-principal

VIJAYAWADA: The Intermediate Public Examinations (IPE) started across Andhra Pradesh in an orderly manner on Friday. Parents in large numbers were seen dropping their children at the exam centres.

Amid reports of malpractices that marred the ongoing SSC examinations, the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) made adequate arrangements to ensure transparency. The exams would end on May 24.

AP Board of Intermediate Education’s controller of examination, Prabhakar Reddy, said that out of a total 10,01,850 students taking the exam, 5,19,319 were from the first year and 4,89,539 from the second year.

He said CC cameras have been installed in each of the 1,456 exam centres to avert chances of any ‘mischief’.

Adequate security had been ensured at the 736 police stations identified as the storage points to secure the question papers. A special officer had been appointed for every district, besides flying and sitting squads that would constantly go round the exam centres to take stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, the Intermediate examinations began in a normal way in Nellore district, barring the suspension of a private junior college vice-principal, after he was caught using cell phones. This was detected by the observer of Board of Intermediate (BIE) on Friday. A police complaint was being lodged against the vice-principal.

The incident took place at the examination centre (08054) in Sri Chaitanya Junior College, located at Stonehouse Peta in Nellore.

“During an inspection by the BIE observers, it was found that the vice-principal Surendra Babu was using a mobile phone. This is against the rules of the Inter Board,” a statement released by Nellore RIO Vara Prasad said.

BIE observers took the matter to the notice of the BIE secretary Seshagiri Babu. He passed orders to the Nellore RIO to suspend the vice-principal from exam duties and advised the college management to suspend him.

The BIE secretary also advised the RIO to lodge a complaint against Surendra Babu.
