EFLU recruitment: HC orders on writ petition to affect selections

Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy issued interim orders on a petition filed by Kanaparthi Pavani, rejected for the post of asst. professor

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court stated that the selections made on September 28 at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) will be subject to its orders on a writ petition challenging the recruitment notification issued by the university on the grounds that the rule of reservation had had not been followed.

The notification was for the recruitment of professors, associate professors and assistant professors.

Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy issued interim orders while hearing a petition filed by Kanaparthi Pavani, an candidate who was rejected for the post of assistant professor (mass communication and journalism).

The petitioner contended that the university did not provide 27 per cent quota for OBC candidate. Out of 238 sanctioned strength, at least 64 personnel must be from the OBCs but the university had specified only eight.

When Justice Vijaysen Reddy inquired, Eflu counsel said the selections had been completed and the list of candidates had been issued the day a division bench vacated the stay imposed on the recruitment by the National BC Commission (NCBC).

Appointment letters had been given to the selected candidates, he said and added that the selected candidates would be necessary parties in the writ petition.

With that, Justice Vijaysen Reddy said that the selection would be subject to the judgment on the petition field by Pavani. The judge directed the university to give a list of selected candidates to the petitioner and inform all selected candidates about the case against their selection, the judge said and posted the hearing to October 21.
