Chennai: Vehemently opposing the Union Government’s National Monetization Pipeline Policy, Chief Minister M K Stalin vowed to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him not to sell or lease out public sector organisations.
Since public sector units belonged to the people, the proposed move to hand over them to private companies should be opposed, Stalin said replying to a call attention motion moved on the issue by Congress Legislature Party leader K Selvaperunthagai on Thursday.
Stalin said public sector institutions had been developed as institutions that were the mainstay of the business done by micro and small industries, besides helping in the nation’s economic development and creating employment opportunities.
The units were operated not with profit as the sole motive but with people’s welfare in mind and hence it was not good for the nation to give them away to private parties, he said.
Earlier, Selvaperunthagai wanted the State Government to prevent the selling of the government organisations and State Industries Minister Thangam Thenarasu said that it was unacceptable.
