Civic body trains unskilled workers for Category-3 eligibility, but issues persist

Previously, Deccan Chronicle reported that Category-2 workers were being bumped up to Category-3 without following due process

Khammam: To resolve the issue of hiring unskilled workers under Category-3, the Khammam municipal corporation is imparting two-day training in coordination with the National Academy of Construction, to certify them as skilled professionals.

Previously, Deccan Chronicle reported that Category-2 workers were being bumped up to Category-3 without following due process.

The development was reported against a backdrop of the state government hiking salaries for outsourced workers by around 30 per cent. Following the revision, Category-1, 2 and 3 workers are being paid Rs 15,600, Rs 19,500 and Rs 22,750, respectively.

Around 150 employees were moved to Category-3 since the hikes were announced.

After the director of municipal administration sought an explanation from the commissioner of the civic body, it was found that the 150 employees were working as electricians, fitters, plumbers and computer operators.

In the backdrop of the NAC certification, it was alleged that officials were also collecting money from outsourced workers to upgrade their status.
