OHPC Partners With NPTI to Strengthen Hydropower Workforce
State-run utility signs MoU with the National Power Training Institute to enhance technical skills, leadership and operational excellence.

State-run Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Ltd (OHPC) has partnered with the National Power Training Institute (NPTI), Hydro Power Training Centre, Nangal, to strengthen workforce capabilities, enhance technical expertise and prepare employees for the evolving needs of the hydropower sector, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday.
The two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 13, marking a key step in OHPC's human resource development strategy as it seeks to build a future-ready workforce capable of driving operational excellence and supporting Odisha's clean energy goals.
The MoU was signed by OHPC Director (HR) Sandeep Patnaik and NPTI Hydro Power Training Centre, Nangal Director Shekhar Ishwardas Mahanta in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
Under the partnership, OHPC employees will undergo structured training programmes covering advanced technical skills, simulator-based learning, leadership development and continuous professional education. The initiative aims to equip engineers, executives and technical personnel with the expertise needed to adapt to emerging technologies, evolving operational standards and global best practices in hydropower generation.
Officials said the collaboration will offer specialised training modules tailored to the operational requirements of hydroelectric utilities while encouraging knowledge-sharing between industry experts and OHPC professionals. The programmes are expected to improve technical proficiency, strengthen managerial capabilities and promote the adoption of modern operational practices across the corporation.
NPTI's Hydro Power Training Centre at Nangal, an apex training institute under the Ministry of Power, provides specialised training in hydroelectric generation, plant operation, maintenance, safety, grid management and emerging technologies. It is regarded as one of India's premier institutions for capacity building in the power sector.
The partnership comes as India's power sector places greater emphasis on workforce reskilling amid rapid technological advancements, digitalisation of utility operations and the country's transition to cleaner energy sources. Capacity building has become a key priority for utilities seeking to enhance plant efficiency, operational reliability and long-term sustainability.
For OHPC, which operates several hydroelectric projects across Odisha, the collaboration is expected to strengthen institutional capabilities while improving safety, efficiency and operational performance. Through continued investment in employee development, the corporation aims to build a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting future challenges in the renewable energy sector.
