B.Tech seats in Adikavi Nannayya University halved to 30

KAKINADA: The number of seats in the engineering college of Adikavi Nannayya University has been halved to 30 from this academic year.

The university acquired AICTE recognition recently, which mandates that room sizes of labs and classrooms should be sufficient to the strength of students. Till now, the engineering college admitted 72 students to each branch, including EWS and qualified polytechnic students.

“New labs and classroom buildings are being constructed and by next year, the strength can be increased to 50 seats for each branch,’’ said its vice-Chancellor Mokka Jagannadha Rao.

He said that the faculty’s quality will be vastly improved and various new projects would be introduced. He also said that they plan to set up a HRD centre at a cost of Rs. 100 crore.

College principal V. Persis said that efforts are being made to introduce Artificial Intelligence, data sciences and other courses in B.Tech, computer science in M.Tech next year. She said that there is no scarcity of faculty to the engineering branches.

She said that last year 40 of 90 students received placements with good packages while the other students opted for higher studies and civil services.
