City now has a Dubsmash rival!

Hyderabad techie Venkateswara Rao is the creator of the Indianised version of the app Dubshoot. And it's on fire...

When Dubsmash was introduced, the whole world was hooked to the app and couldn’t stop dubbing and sharing their videos.

Now Hyderabad-based Venkateswara Rao has come up with its Indianised version — Dubshoot.

“On Dubsmash, the content discovery is based on what is trending; it’s a mixture of all languages, making it difficult for the user to find what they want.

My app targets Indians and has separate categories for each language. The search is more optimised,” says Venkateswara, founder of Mtouch Labs Pvt Ltd.

“It’s edge over Dubsmash,” adds Venkateswara, “is that it supports more devices. Over 12,000 devices run on Android and not all camera’s hardware supports the application.”

Though the app was launched in September, it went global only recently.
“We realised that Indians abroad wanted to use it and hence, we went for a global release 20 days ago. Now, we have users from the US, West Asia and UK. The app already has major languages like Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Punjabi, etc. If someone asks for more languages, we add it,” says the 30-year-old, who is developing the app for Windows users too.

“We have over six lakh users and around 25,000 videos are being uploaded daily. Around 75 per cent users are from South India alone,” he claims.

Venkateswara has now approached movie production houses to use the platform for film promotions.

“We are currently in talks with some big production houses; they want to experiment with one or two movies,” he adds.
