Chennai: Two-year-old Labradors Bolly and Casper may be ready to be mated.
However, owner Sanjoy Das has decided to wait until he finds an eligible mate for his pets. “We are hoping to go to trusted friends who truly love animals,” he said.
Dog shows in the country, such as the one organised by Madras Canine Club at YMCA two weeks ago, are not just a place for owners to showcase their dogs, but one where they may find eligible mates as well.
Dog owners today find it extremely strenuous to find a mate that could be eligible for their dogs as it involves more effort on their part than one may be prepared for. Kennels, pet hotels and some dog lovers are trying their best to make matters simple for those facing such problems, to the extent that there now exist matrimonial sites for dogs.
“It is usually very inconvenient to look for mates for pets. Owners would need to have some contacts or talk to vets to make sure they find a healthy mate, said Shreya R., who owns a Labrador.
Candyromeo.com, which claims to be the country’s first matrimonial website for dogs, holds wedding ceremonies for dogs on a farmhouse in Delhi. The website also provides a platform for the dogs to meet each other before
the wedding. The matrimonial site founder Kareena Abott said “It was my
love for dogs that inspired me to initiate a site like this.”
“Breeding is an art. It needs a lot of study for one to be able to do it,” said Shravan Krishna, who runs ‘Hotel for Dogs’ in Chennai.
