Facebook to add new 3D touch features to its Timeline
Mumbai: Social media giant Facebook is all set to integrate new 3D touch features to its Timeline, which will allow users of Apple’s latest smartphones—iPhone 6s and 6S Plus—to directly access content without navigating from one page to another.
The 3D touch functionality, dubbed peek and pop, was a new addition to Apple’s multi-touch interface and was introduced on the company’s latest iPhone 6s and 6s Plus variants.
Earlier, Facebook added a number of 3D touch features to its iOS app in October, which allowed users to upload pictures, videos, and even write status updates directly from the main Facebook app icon on the smartphone’s home screen.
Utilising the new 3D touch feature on the handsets, users can simply hard-press on the pressure-sensitive screen to view content and open them depending on the amount of force applied.
The 3D-touch feature has been incorporated by many iOS apps and Facebook will again roll out these features on their existing iOS app to help enhance user experience, reports TechCrunch.
After the implementation 3D touch within Facebook’s Timeline, users will be able to preview a post or profile by light pressing, and a subsequent hard press will open up the post, or the profile, said the report.
Moreover, the features will also work with external web links, various Facebook pages, groups, events, and much more. In a nutshell, the new update will allow users to utilise 3D Touch functionality for accessing most of the social networking website’s content. The report pointed out that this would help increase popularity of the currently dormant 3D touch feature.
According to the report, Facebook has just started rolling out the 3D touch feature on the Timeline to a “small group” of people, which will be expanded broadly in upcoming months.
