Powergear makers rue Chinese imports to India

Over 1,000 power equipment and component makers are expected to participate in the event.

Hyderabad: Power equipment and component manufacturers on Tuesday sought a government intervention to curb Chinese imports, which make up 40 per cent of the market in the country.

“We are in discussion with the government to find solution to this... Though low cost, Chinese equipment have higher lifetime costs and come with high risks,” said an official of IEEMA here on Tuesday.

Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA) officials were in the city as part of their roadshow for its upcoming exhibition — Elecrama in Bengaluru in February.

Over 1,000 power equipment and component makers are expected to participate in the event, which will be inaugurated by Union power minister Piyush Goyal.
