CPM MLA K Balakrishnan writes to Jayalalithaa

He said that in the modern era, it is very difficult to live without power connection.

Chennai: It is a long wait for those who are residing in the temple land to get power connection.

As many as 30 families residing in land belonging to Sri Muthukumarasamy temple in Parangipettai in Cuddalore district without power supply for several decades.

In a letter to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, CPI (M) Chidambaram MLA K. Balakrishnan said that due to the norm of getting HR and CE commissioner's consent for availing power supply, poor people are unable to get power connection.

“In Tamil Nadu, lakhs of poor people have built thatched huts on the temple lands across the state. They were being denied power connected for several years,” he pointed out.

He said that in the modern era, it is very difficult to live without power connection and with kerosene lantern for light.

“Children in those houses are finding it difficult to study. Besides, they cannot make use of the government distributed fans, grinder and mixer grinder.

Moreover, the usage of kerosene lantern had led many fire accidents,” he said.He urged the Chief Minister to help provide electricity connection to the poor people including those living in Parangipettai in temple lands.
