Google I/O to take place at Mountain View in May
Mumbai: Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced the date and venue of the tech giant’s annual developer conference—Google I/O. He confirmed that the three-day conference will be held at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View starting May 18.
The announcement was made by Pichai on Twitter, where he said: “Coming to neighborhood where it all started 10 yrs ago: Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View.” This will be the first time in seven years that the tech giant will not be hosting its annual developers conference at the Mascone Center in San Francisco.
The annual developers conference is held every year, where the company makes announcements regarding the latest Android version and showcases the same for technology aficionados. In 2015, the company introduced Android M (Marshmallow) and revealed some of the new features. Additional announcements are also made regarding major software updates.

He also posted futher details regarding the event on his Google+ page.
"We’re only 18 weeks away from Google I/O! 2016 is going to be a special year for us—we held our first developer day 10 years ago at the Googleplex. To celebrate our 10th anniversary of developer gatherings, we’ll be hosting I/O in our backyard at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA from May 18th - 20th. We’ll have 3 full days together to dive deep into developer content, code labs, and more. The 2016 edition of the conference promises a lot, as the company is expected to announce the much-awaited Android N (6.1) and unveil some exciting features it will offer.
Well, this time around, Pichai said that the upcoming Android version might be named after an Indian sweet, which will be determined by an online poll.
Moreover, the company is also expected to make announcements regarding their other projects—Project Ara, Tango, and many more. Updates on the new version of Google Glass and Cardboard are also highly anticipated.
