Atul Projects takes up challenge of revamping Mumbai slums via rehabilitation project

Atul Projects has taken some slum rehabilitation projects and considers it one of the few activities that can change the way Mumbai thinks

“We are proud to be associated with slum redevelopment projects in and around Mumbai. We believe that these projects will change the face of Mumbai and the experience one has living in Maximum City” - Mr. Aakash Patel, Director, Atul Projects.

If there’s one aspect that experts think impedes Mumbai’s evolution after its relentless traffic, it’s the slums. It’s not as if the slums came up all of a sudden. There's been a steady growth and spurt since the eighties. The Government has taken steps to solve this - the Slum Redevelopment Projects, These projects are under the Slum Redevelopment Association in Mumbai and there has been a steady growth in these projects since the past decade or so. These buildings are low-cost ones that offer standard amenities to the people who were earlier slum-dwellers.

Atul Projects has taken some slum rehabilitation projects under its fold and considers it one of the few activities that can change the way Mumbai thinks and more importantly, lives.

Says Mr. Aakash Patel, Director, Atul Projects, “The slums of Mumbai are a problem, but that doesn’t mean that they are an unsolvable problem. We look at it from a holistic point of view. These are individuals who don’t have the resources to get the services and amenities that are mandatory in other parts of the country.”

Mr. Patel continues, “Take it from the marketing point of view. We don’t know what we require. When the mobile phone launched, nobody knew that they wanted it. When the computer launched, nobody knew that they wanted it. Today, they are mandatory parts of our life.”

All over Mumbai, several slum rehabilitation projects have now come up, and they seem to be the quickest solution to unclog the space and beautify it, making it a consistent living experience for everyone.

He said, “In the same way, many people living in slums don’t know about the amenities and services that are available in these projects. They will need to experience the safety, the hygiene and the comfortable experience of living in an apartment, as opposed to the slum. There is a need to provide this information to them, and ensure transparency and speed so that they are completely convinced to change their life. This isn’t possible unless the builder has a holistic view and commits to create a living standard that’s at par with anywhere in the world - even if it is basic.”
