BENGALURU: "I have been given deekshe (religious meaning preparation for ceremony) by president of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Mallikarjun Kharge and have gleefully accepted it,” said Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Friday on his arrival from New Delhi after a meeting with Karnataka party incharge and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Randeep Singh Surjewala in New Delhi on Thursday.

It is speculated the meeting by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar with Randeep Singh Surjewala over change of leadership in Karnataka. At the Kempegowda International Airport, Devanahalli near Bengaluru city, Shivakumar declined to take questions on change of leadership in Karnataka and stated “No matter how you twist your questions, I will not take your bait” and categorically ruled out “I will not comment on the topic of leadership change.”

To a query many people wish Shivakumar to be the Chief Minister, he said “I don’t want to comment on it now and there is no need to comment on it now.”

“I am currently focused on fulfilling the responsibilities given by the party,” he said and in reply to a query about political decisions taken at the meeting with Surjewala, Shivakumar said “We have discussed giving positions for our loyal party workers (in Boards and Corporations).

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said “There was a meeting with Karnataka party incharge and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Randeep Singh Surjewala in New Delhi (on Thursday) attended by me and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.” He, however, did not reveal what transpired at the meeting with Randeep Singh Surjewala.

He told reporters the meeting with Randeep Singh Surjewala remained “inconclusive” over fill-up vacant posts in various Boards and Corporations and stated Surjewala is again coming to Bengaluru on July 16 evening where a decision on to finalise appointments to Boards and Corporations will be taken.
