Reclaiming your health through Ayurveda, Yoga and Meditation
In today’s world where we have lost connection to our roots, most of us are struggling to keep the mind-body and soul in balance. Managing day-to-day affairs also looks tough when we keep facing issues either in our physical body, mental body or emotional body. So, what’s the best way to find the balance?
A beautiful combination of Ayurveda, Yoga and meditation can be applied to help people overcome these challenges. Many yogic techniques heal people of the discord in their mind-body-emotions and in their doshas - vata-pitta-kapha.
Many of these techniques are mentioned in our Shastras and focus on bringing you healing, happiness and harmony. They claim that they help people in reclaiming their health and their youth, and these are still possible.
Once a person finds peace, harmony in relationships, financial issues sorted and more, he or she starts to heal physically also. Ayurveda medicines, yoga asanas and meditation can act as preventative measures to the yet-to-be-created problems of one’s body-mind and soul.
Research also shows that Ayurveda reduces stress, and anxiety, helps you sleep better and keeps your body healthy. The World Health Organization (WHO) says about 70–80% of the world's population rely on non-conventional medicines, mainly herbal sources in their healthcare.
There is an inclination towards Ayurveda once again, because of side effects in synthetic drugs, lack of curative treatment for several chronic diseases, high cost of new drugs, microbial resistance, and emerging diseases, etc.
According to Harvard Health, researchers have also found that people who practised yoga for at least 30 minutes once a week for at least four years gained less weight during middle adulthood. People who were overweight lost weight.
Overall, those who practised yoga had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) compared with those who did not practice yoga.
Researchers attributed this to mindfulness. Mindful eating can lead to a more positive relationship with food and eating.
In a research which studied a small group of sedentary individuals who had not practised yoga before. After eight weeks of practising yoga at least twice a week for a total of 180 minutes, participants had greater muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, and cardio-respiratory fitness.
Research shows meditation practices lead to greater emotional regulation abilities. Mindfulness can help people become more aware of thoughts in the present moment, and this increased self-awareness leads to better processing and control over one's responses to surroundings or circumstances.
During the process of meditation, accumulated stresses are removed, energy is increased, and health is positively affected overall. Research has confirmed a myriad of health benefits associated with the practice of meditation.
These include stress reduction, decreased anxiety, decreased depression, reduction in pain (both physical and psychological), improved memory, and increased efficiency. Physiological benefits include reduced blood pressure, heart rate and decreased metabolism, breathing pattern, oxygen utilization, carbon dioxide elimination and much more.
