Zaheer, Nayar back in Mumbai squad for Ranji quarters

Mumbai: Mumbai got a shot in the arm with senior pacer Zaheer Khan making himself available for leading the defending champions in their Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Maharashtra, to be held at the Wankhede Stadium here from January 8-12.

The 40-time champions, who struggled to make the knockout stage before edging out Gujarat in the do-or-die final Group A league encounter yesterday, would also benefit by the availability of Abhishek Nayar, who is back after an injury.

Mumbai have made five changes to the squad that defeated Gujarat by leaving out Hiken Shah, Siddesh Lad, Doraiswamy Subramanian, Balwinder Singh Sandhu (Jr) and Pravin Tamb.

Besides, Zaheer and Nayar, Vinit Indulkar, Nikhil Patil (Jr) and Sarvesh Damle have been included in the squad.

The squad: Zaheer Khan (capt), Wasim Jaffer, Abhishek Nayar, Aditya Tare, Kaustubh Pawar, Suryakumar Yadav, Vishal Dabholkar, Javed Khan, Shardul Thakur, Iqbal Abdullah, Sagar Kerkar, Vinit Indulkar, Nikhil Patil (Jr), Sarvesh Damle, Saurabh Netravalkar. Coach: Sulakshan Kulkarni.

Bengal selectors name Saha, Tiwary in squad for Ranji QF

Bengal bolstered by return of Saha

Kolkata: Kolkata, Jan 3 (PTI) The selectors today named Wriddhiman Saha and Manoj Tiwary in Bengal's 17-member squad for its Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Railways beginning January 8.

Tiwary, who is yet to play a match this season after a knee surgery, will have to pass a fitness test in NCA Bangalore on January 6, as Bengal named the stylish batsman as the 17th member.

"He (Tiwary) came and met us this morning. He's very keen to play the match so we have kept our options open," CAB joint secretary Sujan Mukherjee said.

Senior opener Arindam Das, who suffered a back injury in their match against UP, is also making a comeback as the axe has fallen on Sadipan Das and U-25 left-arm spinner Jitendra Shaw.

Bengal squad: Laxmi Ratan Shukla (capt), Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Arindam Das, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Manoj Tiwary, Subhomoy Das, Kaushik Ghosh, Writtick Chatterjee, Sudip Chatterjee, Ashok Dinda, Shib Shankar Pal, Sourav Sarkar, Saurashish Lahiri, Iresh Saxena, Gitimoy Basu, Sourav Mondal and Arnab Nandy.
