Ponnam to be booked for ‘shoot Kiran Kumar Reddy?helicopter’ jibe

Vijayawada: DGP B. Prasada Rao said on Friday that the police had received several complaints against Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar and that they would register a suo motu case and investigate.

Prabhakar had said that Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy’s helicopter would be shot down if he came to Karimnagar on January 5 to inaugurate the Ellampalli project.

Criticising the move to divest the legislative affairs portfolio from D. Sridhar Babu, Prabhakar had said that the Chief Minister had no right to tour the Telangana region.

Speaking to mediapersons here, the DGP also said that pre-litigation counselling centres would be set up all over the state on the lines of the Vijayawada Police Commissionerate, which was implementing the system.

The DGP added that special teams would intensify combing in the Andhra-Orissa border areas to prevent illegal activities of Naxals. About the increasing incidents of red sanders smuggling and attack on forest officials, he said that Tamil Nadu gangs were involved in it.

He added that armed police personnel would accompany Forest officials on their regular beats in forests. Armed police would also be posted at forest check-posts to prevent attacks on forest officials.

He also said that a weapons training programme would be organised for Forest officials from January 6.

The DGP said that after enactment of the Act after the Delhi gangrape, the number of cases of harassment of women had increased as more women are coming forward to file police complaints.

Praising the efforts of Vijayawada Commissioner of Police B. Srinivasulu who was present during the meet, the DGP said that the officials were clearing several pending cases with the help of the Lok Adalat. The DGP also stressed on the need for constant vigil in the city to prevent crime as the city had a large floating population.

The DGP added that the salaries of Home Guards would be increased and they were expecting the necessary GO within a week.
