Bangalore: Forty-seven jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF), who are on training, created ruckus and assaulted policemen, civilians and security guards at Lalbagh on Sunday evening. The jawans were under the influence of alcohol and some of them were bashed up by the public after their misbehaviour. Five jawans were arrested.

Six people – head constable Suresh, constable Anaveer, both attached to Siddapura police station, security guards of Lalbagh Samad, Prashanth and Suresh, and a civilian, Jayaram – were injured. Suresh has been admitted to a hospital, while others were treated as outpatients.

The police said the jawans were undergoing 'Bugle Training' at the BSF's Subsidiary Training Centre in Yelahanka over the last four months. As it was Sunday, they were sent on a picnic in a bus (PB-08-Z-9292) to Iskcon, Cubbon Park, Bannerghatta and Lalbagh. They came to Lalbagh around 4.30 pm and most of them were drunk by then. As they were walking inside the park, they allegedly plucked flowers and harassed some women.

“When the public questioned them, they manhandled a few people and the guards. They snatched lathis from guards and assaulted them. The two policemen, who were on patrol duty, rushed to the spot, but were assaulted.

Some of the jawans were also beaten up by the public. Additional forces were called in and 47 jawans were taken into custody. Two separate cases were registered and the complainants identified five of the jawans, who were arrested,” said DCP (South) H.S. Revanna.

One of the arrested jawan is identified as Dileep. All the jawans hailed from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and other parts of North India.
