State girls in Challenger sides

Hyderabad: Andhra cricketers V. Sneha Deepti of Visakhapatnam and R. Kalpana from Krishna were selected for the under-19 Challenger Trophy, to be played at Ranchi from January 7 to 10.

Three sides — India Blues, India Greens and India Reds — will take each other on in 50-over contests over four days. While Blues and Greens consist of senior players, Reds comprise under-19 cricketers and it is for this side that Sneha and Kalpana were picked.

HCA Academy head Kanwal suspended

Hyderabad: Former Hyderabad Ranji cricketer Kanwaljit Singh has been suspended as the director of the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s Academy of Excellence pending an inquiry into allegations of assault by Virender Yadav, the brother of HCA vice-president Shivlal.

On December 26, Virender and Kanwal got involved in a ruckus following which, the former lodged a complaint at the Begumpet Police Station.

The police had registered a case under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 341 (wrongful restraint) against Kanwal. The HCA constituted an internal probe panel and until such time as the probe panel submits its findings to the Association, Kanwal’s services stand suspended.

HCA, APFA condole LVR’s demise

Hyderabad: Condolences continued to pour in on Saturday after Friday’s demise of veteran Andhra Pradesh sports official L. Venkatram Reddy, who had passed away at a private hospital.
The Hyderabad Cricket Association president G. Vinod and other office-bearers expressed their shock and grief at the passing of LVR, who had served as an office-bearer of the HCA.

Also condoling LVR’s demise were Andhra Pradesh Football Association president Rafath Ali and secretary Palguna, as well as Mir Hyder Ali Khan, the president of the Andhra Pradesh Equestrian Association.
