CPM?to greet Singh with black flags

CPM will observe a black day on Saturday when the Prime Minister arrives in the city.

Kochi: CPM will observe a black day on Saturday when the Prime Minister arrives in the city for a two-day visit. Party district committee took the decision to register its protest against the recent hike in the price of non-subsidized LPG cylinders.

CPM district secretary Dinesh Mani told reporters here that the elected representatives of the party would also go for a day-long fast at Vyttila on Sunday to highlight the issue.

Party members would also keep off the commissioning of LNG terminal by the PM. But they would attend the private functions being attended by Singh.

The district committee asked all party units under it to erect black flags on Saturday as part of the protest. “Apart from making the lives of the LPG consumers miserable, the hike has led to loss of livelihood for thousands of workers supplying the domestic cooking gas to houses as the distribution of it has come to a standstill,” Mani said.

Referring to the high price of LNG being paid by FACT and the slow progress of the City Gas project, the CPM leader said that the Centre cheated Kochi on these.
