Hyderabad: If the NDA combine forms the next government at the Centre with the Telugu Desam as a partner, TD president N. Chandrababu Naidu will undoubtedly create problems for Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, including putting him back in prison for the charges he is facing.
“Naturally, Naidu will try to settle scores,” said a source. But the source also questioned the advantage the BJP will get by allying with the TD. In Telangana, the TD cadre is not strong enough to take on the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and the Congress.
YSRC sources are confident that Rajnath Singh and Narendra Modi are inclined to favour a post-poll pact with the YSRC rather than with the TD. They say that the BJP state leadership has conveyed to the national leadership that it prefers an alliance with Reddy rather than Naidu.
However, it is believed that the BJP’s senior leaders L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Venkaiah Naidu are in favour of a pre-poll alliance with the Telugu Desam. The situation is still fluid, and much depends on how the Centre goes about the formation of Telangana state.
