Vijayawada: The department of archaeology & museums has decided to apply vaastu to the historical Victoria Jubilee Museum in Vijayawada to attract more tourists and for its development.
Though the museum was established over 50 years ago, there was no significant development. The museum failed to attract visitors in spite of having some valuable objects, inscriptions, old coins and idols dating centuries.
Keeping in view the sentiment and Vaastu tradition being widely followed the department has decided to install a second gate at the eastern side of the museum in addition to the existing main gate, located on the south of the premises, on Bandar Road.
There is common belief among the Vaastu followers that entrances on the East and North sides are more auspicious compared to the southern entrances. Visitors can enter the museum through both the gates.
Assistant director, department museums, Vijayawada, K. Chittibabu said, “We are trying our luck by installing a second gate at the northeastern corner of the museum.” He said the second gate can be used by the staff because it will be located near the office inside the museum compound.
Meanwhile, the department started the construction of new compound wall to the eastern side of the museum at a cost of Rs 14 lakh. The old wall had collapsed in December 2012.
The archeology department has sanctioned Rs 14 lakh for construction of the 135 metres long and 9 feet tall wall. After the wall’s collapse, the staff had covered the gaping hole with branches and construction debris.
