Exhibition of paintings on Tendulkar from tomorrow

Mumbai: An exhibition of over 25 paintings portraying different moods and expressions of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar will be held at the Andheri Sports Complex here from tomorrow.

Artist and advertising professional Ashok Karnik, who has captured various expressions of the master blaster on the canvas, said he will pay his tributes to the iconic batsman through a series of vibrant water colour paintings.

"The most interesting thing about Sachin is his face – it is very expressive. A couple of years ago I watched a game in which he scored a century. After reaching the milestone, he took off his helmet and expressed his happiness and gratitude towards the crowd. I found those expressions fascinating and decided to capture them through the strokes of my paintbrush," Karnik said.

The artist added he got the opportunity to show some of his paintings to the batting legend a few years ago.

"Three years ago, I sought to meet Sachin personally to show him the paintings. He was kind enough to invite me to his home. He lavished praises on the paintings, saying they were exact replicas of his expressions. He generously offered to autograph those paintings too.

"Now that Sachin has retired, I have decided to convene an exhibition of these paintings as a standing ovation to the great man who has served Indian cricket with such distinction," he said.

The exhibition, named 'Portraits of Sachin' (Sachin in Emotional Colours), would be held till January 12.
