Berth pangs: Pillai hits out at Chandy

Kerala Congress (B) chairman R. Balakrishna Pillai on Friday hit out at chief minister Oommen Chandy.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Congress (B) chairman R. Balakrishna Pillai on Friday hit out at chief minister Oommen Chandy accusing him of rejecting his party’s genuine claim for a cabinet berth during the recent reshuffle.

At a press conference here, Pillai said: “Our party will not seek a cabinet berth but will continue in the UDF. We will continue in the UDF even if Chandy decides to leave the front.”

He said the chief minister had now said that the issue pertaining to Ganesh Kumar’s re-entry into the cabinet would be taken up after the Lok Sabha elections. “Our party is not prepared to be humiliated in this fashion. We are not refusing a cabinet berth the way KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala did,” he added.

“Our party is receiving only humiliation and pain from the UDF. None of the allies in the UDF is speaking out against this injustice. From now on, the UDF cabinet decisions will not have the approval of Kerala Congress (B),” he added.

He said Chandy had no hesitation in handing over the portfolios held by the late T.M. Jacob to his son Anoop Jacob. But the portfolios held by Kerala Congress (B) were taken away without its consent and given to another minister. This is unheard of in Kerala’s history,” he added.
