FIFA World Cup 2026: Game Day 9 Promise Goals Galore, Brazil in Action

Tonight's games include USA Vs Australia, Morocco Vs Scotland, Brazil Vs Haiti, Paraguay Vs Turkey,

FIFA World Cup’s match day 9 will bring to the stage the co-hosts, USA against underdogs Australia at the Seattle stadium. Right after, will be the declared AFCON winners Morocco taking on Scotland as giants Brazil prepare for their outing against Haiti. Rounding off the day will be Turkey against the talented South American squad of Paraguay.

USA Vs Australia (12:30 AM Kickoff)

An electric match for all the wrong reasons, the USA and the Australian squad have found flare and disdain at each other’s throats on the big stage. With a feisty confrontation in last year’s friendly, the wounds will still be fresh for both teams as they look to secure their spot in the knockouts. Among a turbulent geopolitical situation, this match holds more than just 3 points and a knockout spot for the nations and their fans. The two teams were victorious in both of their opening matches. The USA dismantled the Paraguayan defence with 4 goals while the Socceroos held a steadfast 2-0 lead from a tactical master class. With tensions already running high with months of preparation behind both teams, the Socceroos will surely try to get the Americans’ skins at their home to promise an entertaining match up.

Morocco Vs Scotland (03:30 AM Kickoff)

Last time wreckers in chief, 2022 world cup semi-finalists Morocco will take on Scotland in their second match of the tournament. With Morocco holding the might of Brazil to a draw and Scotland coming out on top of Haiti, both teams will have confidence behind them. Morocco comes into the game as favourites, expected to win against a Scotland side that hasn’t reached the knockouts even once. With expected changes to the line up and formation, Scotland would not count themselves out of the contest yet, hoping to cause an upset with nothing to lose. Morocco on the other hand will play with the pressure of an expected victory, trying not to falter under the weight of millions of hopes.

Brazil Vs Haiti (06:00 AM Kickoff)

Tournament favourites, Brazil take on the small nation of Haiti as they look to make a statement after their disappointing draw against Morocco. With an injured Neymar on the sidelines, Brazil still has more than enough firepower to come out on top against Haiti. To finally get their tournament going, Brazil will expect a victory against a significantly weaker opponent in Haiti. Not averse to upsets, if Brazil’s attack repeats much the same performance against Morocco, with only a sole big chance converted, Haiti’s attack could well cash in. Although Haiti has proven that it can compete on this level, if Brazil find their footing in preparation of an almost guaranteed place in the knockout stages, it could well be a bloodbath.

Paraguay Vs Turkey (08:30 AM Kickoff)

With defeats for both teams in the same group as Australia and the USA, Paraguay and Turkey both know this is a do or die match. A defeat here will almost assuredly put the writing on the wall as they face teams that will surely not think of giving them a chance. Turkey will look to repair their clinical finishing in front of goal to not repeat the mistakes made against Australia as Paraguay will look to solidify a defence that fell well short of a well structured American attack. A match for the neutrals, both teams will look to play with all their heart at possibly their only chance at survival on the biggest stage.

Match Day 8

Just into the second round of matches for the teams at the World Cup, Match Day 8 has already brought us 3 red-card suspensions. With a total of 14 goals scored throughout 4 matches, it was the co-hosts Canada that took away the laurels with 6 goals against a 9-man Qatar team. Mexico would also hang on to their sole goal against South Korea to end on a victory as Switzerland scored 4 in the space of 20 minutes to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina’s sole goal in stoppage time. South Africa, after a dismal start to the world cup, equalized an early Czechia goal through a penalty minutes before the end of the match to secure a draw.

South Africa Vs Czechia

South Africa turned up to make a statement against Czechia after a 2-0 defeat against Mexico in their opening match that resulted in 2 red card suspensions for the squad. The squad would still not find the safety and stability as their penalty scorer Teboho Mokoena stands suspended for the next game owing to excess yellow card accumulations. An early strike by Michal Sadílek put Czechia in the lead for almost 80 minutes of the game as South Africa found their way around their own defence. Impressive waves of attack from both sides put pressure on both goals on the field. The pressure would finally pay off for the Bafana Bafana as the Czechia defence made a mistake and gifted a penalty that Mokoena would convert to steal a point for the South Africans.

Switzerland Vs Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Los Angeles Stadium saw the dominance of an experienced Swiss squad against underdogs Bosnia and Herzegovina who could only keep the Swiss silent for the first 70 minutes. 5 goals and a red card in almost 20 minutes meant that all the excitement of the game occurred in quick fashion. Substitute Johan Manzambi proved catalytic for Switzerland as he scored a brace, opening the score and scoring another in the next 16 minutes. Tarik Muharemović of Bosnia and Herzegovina would be booked with a red card in the 80th minute for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity, marking the 4th red card of this edition of the World Cup, equalling the 2022 edition red card record. An eventual own goal and a stoppage time penalty would secure the first Swiss victory in their second group game.

Canada Vs Qatar

A highly eventful match between Canada and Qatar in Vancouver took all the headlines as the co-hosts put 6 behind the Middle Eastern nation. A first ever world cup victory for the Canadians on the back of Jonathan David hat trick was overshadowed by a distressful injury. Ismael Kone would be stretchered off the field for a broken leg from an unintentional serious tackle by Assim Madibo that would result in his sending off. Tensions started floating after that as this was the second send off for Qatar and the Canada bench did not believe that the Qatar squad had an appropriate response to the injury. Madibo would be seen apologizing and even visited the Canada dressing room after the match to personally apologize to Kone. An earlier red card that the social media considered a soft call also didn’t help ease any tensions on the field as Canada decimated a 9-men Qatar. Tensions would finally boil over in the end when an awkward interaction between the head coaches angered the Qatari squad prompting a heated confrontation on the field. Jonathan David would also find himself on top of the golden boot standings, on the back of a hat trick to equal Messi’s hat-trick against Algeria.

Mexico Vs South Korea

Mexico hosted the South Korean squad at the Guadalajara Stadium as they secured the first spot in knockouts. An incredible match for the neutrals, all 22 men on the pitch seemed to turn up, to secure a victory for their respective nations. With a stellar display of attacking prowess from both sides, it was an incredible defence that kept toe-to-toe with the attacking onslaught on display last evening. A minor fault by the South Korean keeper gifted Mexican striker Luis Romo with the only goal of the game, splashing what was an otherwise faultless game at the back for South Korea. The Mexican keeper would keep out multiple important close range shots from a South Korean attack later on to defuse an uncomfortable situation in goal. With the fans of both teams finding solidarity with each other on the back of the 2022 world cup qualifying situation, it was a thrilling match that made the whole stadium hold its breath till the final whistle.
