Fauji Prequel Set to Break New Ground in Tollywood?
The project has recently garnered renewed attention after sources hinted at the story’s expansive scope.

Amid the ongoing wave of sequels in Tollywood—driven by ambitious projects like Kalki 2898 AD and Salaar—the makers of Fauji are reportedly exploring a different path: a prequel. According to sources, the idea is to expand the narrative by delving into unexplored backstories. “This could set a new trend, as the prequel has a wealth of material to explore,” a source reveals.
Prabhas is entering a pivotal phase in his career, with an impressive slate of films lined up over the next few years. Among the most anticipated is Fauji, a period war drama directed by Hanu Raghavapudi. The film promises a compelling blend of intense battlefield action and an emotionally driven romantic narrative. It also marks the debut of Imanvi, who stars opposite the pan-Indian icon.
The project has recently garnered renewed attention after sources hinted at the story’s expansive scope. While Fauji is not conceived as a conventional franchise built on sequels, the sources have indicated the possibility of a prequel. They note a significant unexplored narrative gap that could allow for a deeper exploration of the protagonist’s origins. "Early pre-production work on this potential extension is reportedly already underway," he adds.
If realised, this initiative would mark another ambitious multi-part venture in Prabhas’s career and the first time Hanu Raghavapudi expands his storytelling into a franchise format. The objective is to craft a more layered narrative that examines the emotional depth and ideological evolution of its characters, thereby enriching the overall story.
Speaking about the film, the source describes Prabhas’s role as that of a larger-than-life soldier inspired by legendary figures. “Arjuna, Karna, and Ekalavya embody skill, sacrifice, and devotion, and all these traits are in Prabhas' character in the film. . Fauji is an action-packed story set in the 1940s colonial era, with references to slokas and the Bhagavad Gita,” he explains, while also appreciating Prabhas for granting filmmakers the creative freedom to explore diverse character dimensions.
Mounted on a grand scale, the film reportedly carries a budget exceeding ₹600 crore. The cast further elevates the project, featuring seasoned actors such as Anupam Kher, Jaya Prada, Mithun Chakraborty, and Chaitra J. Achar in pivotal roles.
