In coversation with former Miss India Queenie Singh

Queenie Singh seems ageless.

Model and former Miss India-turned jewellery designer, Queenie Singh seems ageless. This mathematics graduate-turned-jewellery designer has dressed up the likes of Hillary Clinton, Queen of Morocco, Lara Dutta, Sushmita Sen, Malaika Arora Khan, Kangna Ranaut, Shilpa Shetty, Amrita Arora, Jade Jagger, Lindsay Lohan, Naomi Campbell, Paris Hilton and many others with her precious gems, beads and baubles and will be in Bengaluru today for a private exhibition. Queenie tied the knot with industrilaist Rishi Sethia aboard a yacht at St Tropez, France, last year. She reveals, “It was a private wedding and there were very few people.

“Rishi is a private person and doesn’t like me talking about our personal lives. For me, family is always a priority. Romance is about togetherness and being kind to each other and understanding each other’s needs. Watching a sunset on a beach or holding hands must come with a deeper sense than just sharing some frivolous moments. The biggest thing is to be able to understand each other’s needs,” reveals Queenie.

She has been to Bengaluru several times and says, “I have good friends here like Radhika Poddar and Kulsum Shadab. I’ve gone for meals, parties, cricket matches, concerts and weddings in Bengaluru. But this time, I’m only here for two days as my son Ranvir who is 17-and-a-half is preparing for his board exams so I will fly back soon,” says the dedicated mom, who spends a few hours teaching her son psychology, economics and history. “Ranvir is planning to go the UK, but we’re still toying with the choices. My daughter Tiara is studying at Sarah Lawrence in New York and I feel going abroad gives them good exposure and keeps them grounded. Shobhaa De launched Tiara’s book when she was 17 and now she’s studying fiction writing, literature, screenplay and history of law. She gets three months off in summer when I meet her in New York for a few weeks,” she adds.

Queenie has a large circle of celebrity friends who have also become her clients. “The princess of Morocco told me she was surprised to see that India had such amazing designs. Even Bollywood stars like Shilpa Shetty, Twinkle Khanna, Kiron Kher, Malaika and others not only wear my creations for the red carpet evenings but come back and buy them. Someone picked one for Lindsay Lohan from one of the exhibitions in the US and then sent me a note late,” Queenie signs off.
