Amid the ongoing tensions between the neighboring countries India and Pakistan, a flood of misinformation is making rounds on the internet, misleading the people.
One such message on WhatsApp claiming that ATMs will be closed for 2–3 days in the country is widely being circulated.
"ATMs will be closed for the next 2-3 days probably, due to ransomware cyber-attack war of Pakistan. Don't do any online transactions today. Please inform all contacts from your list not to open a video called the 'Dance of the Hillary'," the viral message reads.
However, the Press Information Burear's (PIB) fact check unit has called it fake news and clarified that ATM services will function as usual.
"A viral #WhatsApp message claims ATMs will be closed for 2–3 days. This Message is FAKE ATMs will continue to operate as usual," the PIB fact check team said in a post on X.
The PIB also urged citizens to not share unverified messages.
