Fact Check: ABP opinion poll predicting huge victory for BJP in Delhi? No, video is fake

ABP News confirmed that the viral video was fabricated and that it has not conducted any such poll

What is the claim?

A one-minute and 26-second long video, purportedly showing an opinion poll published by Hindi language news channel ABP News, is being circulated on social media with a claim that the channel has predicted a victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.

The video claims that the BJP is projected to win 47 out of 70 seats, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will finish at 17, and the Congress will win on six seats. The video suggests that the BJP could form the government in Delhi after 27 years. The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with the results to be announced on February 8.

An X user shared the video with the caption, “Based on the latest figures, @BJP4Delhi can get 41-46, AAP 17-22, Congress 1-2. The margin of defeat of AAP stalwarts will be like this. @ArvindKejriwal 8000-12000 @msisodia 10000 to 13000 @AtishiAAP 8000 to 11000 (sic) [translated from Hindi]." However, upon investigation, we found that the viral video is fake and no such opinion poll or news was published by ABP News.

What are the facts?

We conducted a Google search using relevant keywords and found no such opinion poll or news broadcast on channel's social media handles or website.

We also noted some discrepancies between the viral video and standard ABP News broadcasts. The text displayed in the center of the viral video lacks the transition that can be seen in the original ABP News broadcasts, where the text typically scrolls upwards from the bottom of the screen (archived here). In the viral video, the text simply appears in the centre of the box.

Moreover, the latest ABP News broadcasts feature a “Breaking News” banner at the top of the screen and only briefly at the bottom of the screen, typically with a red and white color combination on a white background (archived here and here). However, the “Breaking News” banner in the viral video is displayed permanently at the bottom, with yellow text and on a red background.

This confirms that the viral video was digitally edited and does not show an opinion poll published by ABP News ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

What did ABP News say?

A representative of ABP News called the viral video "fake" and said, "This video being circulated on social media in the name of ABP News is completely fake. No such news/opinion poll has been run by ABP News. We will take legal action against such people."

Journalists from ABP News also confirmed to Logically Facts that the video was fabricated and noted that the voice featured in the clip did not match that of any of their anchors, adding that ABP News has not conducted any opinion poll for the Delhi Assembly elections.
