Veteran Telugu Actress and Producer C Krishnaveni Dies at 102

Renowned for her role in introducing N.T. Rama Rao to the film industry, Krishnaveni passed away due to age-related issues

Hyderabad: Veteran actress and film producer C. Krishnaveni passed away at the age of 102 due to age-related ailments. She is survived by her daughter.

Born on December 24, 1924, in Pangidi, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, Krishnaveni began her career as a drama artist before transitioning to films. She debuted as a child artist in Sati Anasuya (1936) and later starred in Kacha Devayani (1938). Over her career, she appeared in over 40 films.

Krishnaveni is remembered as a trailblazer in the Telugu film industry. She played a crucial role in introducing N.T. Rama Rao (NTR) to cinema through her film Mana Desam, in which she also acted.

At the age of 15, she married Mirzapuram Raja, the Zamindar of Mirzapuram, in 1939. She later took charge of her husband’s production house, Sobhanachala Studios, in Chennai, helping to launch the careers of several iconic actors. As a producer, she was instrumental in bringing films like Bhisma and Daksha Yagnam to the big screen.

In recognition of her immense contributions to Indian cinema, Krishnaveni was honored with the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award in 2004.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu condoled Krishnaveni's death. In a post on 'X', he said, "The death of the actress and film producer Krishnaveni saddens me. I pray to God to grant peace to her soul. Her service to the art world by introducing NTR to the film industry with the film Mana Desam is unforgettable. I express my deepest condolences to her family members."
