Tom Cruise Reveals First Poster And Teaser For Comedy 'Digger'

A first poster and teaser for the Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment film were revealed today, accompanied by a tagline describing the movie as “a comedy of catastrophic proportions”

Alejandro González Iñárritu’s highly anticipated next film, starring Tom Cruise, has set a October 2026 release date and unveiled its evocative title, “Digger.”
A first poster and teaser for the Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment film were revealed today, accompanied by a tagline describing the movie as “a comedy of catastrophic proportions.” The film is scheduled for release on October 2, 2026.
“Digger,” which filmed in the U.K. over six months, marks Iñárritu’s first English-language film since “The Revenant.” The film is written and directed by Iñárritu, with a script he co-wrote in 2023 alongside “Birdman” collaborators Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, as well as Sabina Berman. The project is produced by both Cruise and Iñárritu.
Cruise stars as Digger Rockwell. While plot details remain tightly under wraps, Warner Bros. has released an enigmatic logline describing the character as “the most powerful man in the world” who “embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
The ensemble cast also includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed, and Emma D’Arcy.
“Digger” is Cruise’s first film since signing a deal in January to develop and produce theatrical projects with Warner Bros. Discovery. His most recent collaboration with the studio was “Edge of Tomorrow,” released a decade ago.
The film’s fall release timing suggests a potential premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where Iñárritu previously debuted “Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths,” which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography in 2023. Venice also hosted “Birdman,” which won Best Picture in 2015, and “21 Grams.”
Iñárritu also shares a long-standing relationship with the Cannes Film Festival, where he premiered “Amores Perros,” which launched his international career 25 years ago, as well as “Babel” and “Biutiful.” He later returned to the Croisette with “Flesh and Sand” (“Carne y Arena”), a virtual-reality short that places viewers in the perspective of migrants crossing the U.S.–Mexico border. The project went on to receive a Special Achievement Academy Award in 2018.
Cruise most recently appeared in “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” and “Top Gun: Maverick.”
