Nani’s much-hyped action drama The Paradise appears to be facing some pressure at the box office in the Telugu states, with collections witnessing a significant drop on its second day, according to trade sources.
A leading distributor says the film reportedly recorded around Rs 11 crore share on Day 2 in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, a substantial decline from its opening-day numbers. “The collections have dropped badly. The film garnered around Rs 11 crore share on the second day and the trend is going further down,” the distributor says.
The Paradise opened on a strong note, benefiting from considerable pre-release hype and high-priced premiere shows. The film reportedly registered around Rs 29 crore share on its first day, including premieres, giving it a strong start. With the second-day collections added, the film has crossed the Rs 40 crore share mark in the Telugu states.
However, the sharp fall has become a concern for the trade. “Collections are dipping in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. There have been several cancellations, which are adding to the distributors’ worries, and a few shows have also been cancelled,” the distributor adds.
The drop comes amid mixed reactions to the film on social media. While some sections of the audience have praised Nani’s performance and the film’s scale, the movie has also faced criticism over certain aspects of its execution.
Interestingly, Nani has acknowledged the varied audience response rather than ignoring the criticism. In a social media post, the actor said he had seen the reactions and responses from audiences, enjoyed the humorous trolling and was “heartwarmed” by the way viewers had embraced the film. He also said he had taken note of the flaws pointed out by critics and reviewers.
Nani has been coming off a strong commercial run, with films such as Saripodhaa Sanivaaram and Dasara performing well at the box office. The early trend for The Paradise, however, suggests that the film may need stronger word-of-mouth to sustain its theatrical momentum in the coming day.
