Bollywood adopted a corporate model to survive. Budgets are now locked before production starts. Directors face personal liability for cost overruns. This system creates strict accountability and financial control. Since corporate companies are publicly traded, single failures rarely destroy businesses. The financial risk is shared across the company.
Varma compared this structure with Telugu cinema. He noted that Telugu films follow a producer-driven model. Independent producers bear the full financial burden of failures. Neither directors nor lead actors face penalties for delays or extra costs. Projects often take years and spend huge sums without guaranteed returns.
