Nagarjuna To Lock Horns With Balakrishna This Christmas?

“Nagarjuna is confident about his film this time and appears ready to face the competition,” the distributor concludes.

Seasoned star Akkineni Nagarjuna appears determined to stick to his Christmas release plan despite the possibility of a box-office clash with Nandamuri Balakrishna. His milestone film, King100, is gearing up for a December 24 release, even as Balakrishna’s upcoming film Dada is also expected to join the Christmas race.

According to a distributor, Nagarjuna has generally avoided release clashes because of his friendly relations with fellow Tollywood stars. “Nagarjuna was the one who proved that December releases could also bring in good revenues, apart from the traditional festive seasons of Sankranthi and Dasara. Now, several others are following his footsteps,” he says.

Meanwhile, King100 will officially kick-start its promotional campaign on November 4, coinciding with actress Tabu’s birthday. Tabu plays a crucial role in the film and is reportedly set to portray a character with negative shades who locks horns with Nagarjuna.

With the makers preparing to unveil a video glimpse, Nagarjuna appears to be sending a clear signal that he has no plans to back away from the announced December 24 release date.

Interestingly, the Christmas window will also witness the arrival of the Bollywood biggie King and Balakrishna’s Dada. While the Hindi film is unlikely to pose a major challenge in the Telugu market, Balakrishna’s film could emerge as a strong competitor.

Trade circles had initially expected either Nagarjuna or Balakrishna to reconsider their release plans and move away from the crowded Christmas window. However, the latest developments suggest that King100 is firmly on course for a December 24 release, irrespective of whether Balakrishna joins the race.

Apart from the sentimental significance attached to the date, Christmas is also considered a favourable window for a milestone film. With Sankranthi already packed with several big-ticket releases, Nagarjuna seems to have chosen Christmas as the most suitable option.

“Nagarjuna is confident about his film this time and appears ready to face the competition,” the distributor concludes.
