Nagarjuna to Back New Concepts, Could Be a Game Changer
Producer Raj Kandukuri, known for backing small-budget films, feels Nagarjuna's new initiative could give greater confidence to filmmakers working with limited budgets.

Seasoned star Nagarjuna says he wants to back fresh content and encourage filmmakers with new and unconventional ideas. He has urged young filmmakers to approach the Annapurna Studios team with promising concepts, making it clear that he is more interested in reinvesting in the film industry than simply earning through leasing out his studio facilities.
“My dad produced films and I have also done my bit. Now I would like to back new talent with refreshing concepts,” Nagarjuna said.
Proving his intent, Nagarjuna recently unveiled the official trailer of Pallaburusu, an upcoming Telugu family drama presented and produced by Annapurna Studios and EPIC Studios. The film is helmed by Aditya Pittie and Vivek Krishnani and written and directed by Uday Chauhan. It stars Sudhakar Reddy, Murlidhar Goud, Gomathy, Prajwal Yadma and Sujatha in key roles.
The trailer opens with an unusual and intriguing premise. An elderly father walks into a police station to file a complaint against his own son for not buying him a toothbrush. The seemingly trivial complaint leaves the police amused and puzzled as they struggle to understand why such a simple request has turned into a legal matter.
“I had a great opportunity to take care of my father and mother, and this film is a tribute to old parents,” Nagarjuna said.
At a time when several major production houses are becoming more cautious about backing experimental and content-driven films, Nagarjuna's push could provide a much-needed boost to young writers and directors.
“Nagarjuna can be a game changer if he backs more content-based films and changes the lives of young filmmakers and actors. He has already distributed path-breaking films like Balan and wants to produce similar films in Telugu. He is certainly giving support to new-age content which is key,” says director Ashok Teja.
He believes young talent could play a crucial role in reviving the fortunes of Tollywood. “Films like Raju Weds Rambhai and Chennai Love Story, made by young directors, show that fresh talent can make a difference. They are the key to the uprising of Tollywood,” he adds.
Producer Raj Kandukuri, known for backing small-budget films, feels Nagarjuna's new initiative could give greater confidence to filmmakers working with limited budgets.
“Many top directors, including K. Raghavendra Rao, Dasari Narayana Rao and K. Viswanath, started with concept-driven films before reaching the top. Small films are the backbone of Tollywood, but they are not getting the right kind of support. Nagarjuna's initiative can change that and encourage more filmmakers to step in,” he concludes.
