Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ‘DC’ Collects Rs 4.5 Crore in AP/TG

The positive response to DC suggests that his popularity in the Telugu states extends to his acting debut as well.

In a pleasant surprise, noted Tamil filmmaker-turned-actor Lokesh Kanagaraj’s acting debut DC has managed to draw decent numbers in the Telugu states. The film has reportedly collected around Rs 4.5 crore net in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, including Rs 1.30 crore on day one and Rs 2.30 crore on day two, which is considered a healthy figure for a dubbed film.

“If the film had been promoted better, it could have collected even more,” says a distributor. He believes the gangster drama, featuring Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi in dark and intense roles, has connected with the audience.

More than the plot, the performances of the lead actors and Anirudh Ravichander’s terrific background score appear to have worked in the film’s favour, helping audiences overlook some of the script’s shortcomings. “The dark world and the music have sustained audience interest in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Telugu audiences have lapped it up,” he points out.

Telugu audiences have already patronised Lokesh Kanagaraj’s directorial ventures such as Kaithi, Master and Vikram. The positive response to DC suggests that his popularity in the Telugu states extends to his acting debut as well.
