Dil Raju's Rs 54 Crore Ramayana Gamble Or Smart Strategy?

The film is expected to draw good openings in Telugu states and we have to see how it performs in the first week.

Contrary to various rumours doing the rounds, leading producer and distributor Dil Raju has reportedly acquired the Telugu theatrical distribution rights of the much-awaited epic Ramayana for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana through a sizable advance-based deal.

“He has taken the film on an advance basis and paid around Rs 54 crore, including GST,” says a distributor, adding that the arrangement is different from a conventional theatrical distribution deal.

Interestingly, Dil Raju has not undertaken any major promotional campaign for the film so far, which has triggered speculation about the nature of his involvement. Some reports even suggested that he had not invested any money and that co-producer Yash had handed him the distribution rights free of cost. 'That is not true,' he adds.

The film is expected to draw good openings in Telugu states and we have to see how it performs in the first week.

Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, Ramayana is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. With enormous expectations surrounding the epic, the Telugu distribution arrangement has become an interesting talking point in trade
