Did Nani Pass on Akhil's Blockbuster Lenin?

Actor Nani was reportedly the first choice to headline Lenin, but the project ultimately went to Akhil Akkineni after discussions with the Hi Nanna star failed to materialize.

According to industry sources, director Murali Kishor Abburu had initially narrated the script to Nani, who appreciated the story but took time to make a decision.

“Nani liked the core idea of the film, but he felt the rural action drama had shades similar to Dasara. Having already scored a massive success in that space, he wasn't keen on taking up another film with a comparable backdrop and treatment,” says a source.

The role eventually landed with Akhil Akkineni, who underwent a remarkable physical transformation to suit the larger-than-life action-oriented character.

“Akhil's makeover played a crucial role in making the character believable. He built a stronger physique for the demanding action sequences and delivered one of his most convincing performances. He too liked the script and the rural setting, although he also took some time before giving his nod,” the source adds.

With Lenin, Akhil has successfully entered the league of actors who have made an impact in rural action dramas, joining stars like Allu Arjun, Ram Charan and Nani. The film has also allowed him to shed his urban romantic image and showcase his potential as a mass-action performer.

“From being seen primarily as an urban hero to convincingly portraying a rugged rural character, Akhil has come a long way. Lenin marks an important milestone in his career,” the source concludes.

Industry insiders believe that while Nani would have undoubtedly brought his own style and intensity to the role, Akhil has made the character his own, with his transformation and performance emerging as one of the film's biggest talking points.
