Stardom seems to have changed Shruti Haasan and how! The actress finds herself in yet another controversy, as just days after promoting her film Sangamithra at the Cannes Film Festival and hogging international limelight, Shruti Haasan has ‘opted’ out of the film! An official statement from Shruti Haasan’s spokesperson says that she opted out since “she had not received a proper bound script nor a proper date calendar.” Directed by senior director Sundar C., the period drama is estimated to cost nearly '250 crore. The actress even trained in sword fighting and other skills for the film.
Even before the actress’ team sent out a press release informing media houses of the news, the film’s producers had announced on Twitter, “Due to unavoidable circumstances, we are unable to proceed working with Shruti Haasan in Sangamithra.” The actress followed this up by sending out a hurried press release. Turns out she had some issues with the producers, and tried to pre-empt them by opting out of the film.
“She’s lying!”
A source from the production unit shares: “Whatever Shruti is saying is not true. The pre-production work on the film has been going on for over two years now.
How would that have been possible without a proper script? We got all the actors on board only after narrating the whole story. We don’t want to disclose the reason why she was ruled out of Sangamithra, but there is some misleading from her end. We’d say she is lying.”
No stranger to squabbles
- Shruti was labelled an ‘Iron Leg’ as most of the films in the initial stages of her career were duds. Gabbar Singh, directed by Harish Shankar, gave her the first break.
- After signing the Telugu/Tamil film Oopiri, Shruti opted out of the film at the last minute, citing that the film was long delayed. The producers proceeded legally against her, but later they compromised.
