Everyone has their own plans…

…says RRR producer D.V.V. Danayya on RRR release date controversy

A few days ago, the makers of Rajamouli’s RRR announced that the much-anticipated action drama would hit the screens on October 13, 2021, irking Bollywood filmmaker Boney Kapoor, whose Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidaan is scheduled to be released on October 15. RRR producer D.V.V. Danayya, however, feels everyone is free to have their own plans for release. Boney, who had hoped to cash in on the Dasara weekend for his sports drama, appears to feel that an ace filmmaker like Rajamouli, with blockbusters like Baahubali, does not need to use festive holidays to release his films.

(Apparently, Rajamouli and Boney Kapoor haven’t been on good terms since the making of Baahubali. Because of financial reasons, which later became a controversy, Boney’s late wife Sridevi was not part of Baahubali.)

When we reached out to Danayya, he stressed that everyone has their own plans when it comes to release dates.

“If you look back, our original release date was in July 2020, and then it became January 2021. But because of the pandemic, we had to postpone the release indefinitely. After having put in so much effort, and with uncertain shooting schedules, we have finally locked the release date as October 13 for Dasara,” explains Danayya, adding that the festival is not complete without film releases.

“Dasara is one of the biggest festive seasons, and since Telugu audiences and people across the country celebrate it, we feel the festivities would be incomplete without a film’s release,” Danayya says.

It’s not our call; we have been under pressure from the film’s buyers, exhibitors and distributors. They are the ones who have been constantly working on the release dates, in order to plan their logistics and other modalities. So it’s unfair to blame us for the release clash
