I still believe I am a kid: Nani
After delivering five consecutive hits, actor Nani is gearing up for his upcoming film Nenu Local which releases this Friday. “Don’t come to a conclusion after seeing the title, it’s a complete love story,” says Nani, who adds that despite the consecutive hits, he feels tense before every release. “My tension is not about whether my film will be a hit or a flop, but because the film is now ready to be delivered. It’s the same with every film of mine,” he reveals.
The actor who generally watches his films with family and friends won’t be doing so this time. “For the last few years, I have been watching my films with them. This time, I wanted to watch the film with the audience at a mass theatre. But I am watching it in the US,” he shares. The actor will go to going to the US to shoot for his next and so is watching the film there. “I tried to postpone it by a couple of days but a 35-member team is leaving and it’s not possible to adjust the dates,” he explains.
Denying rumours that the the film was delayed because it was reshot, Nani says, “I don’t know how these rumours spread. We planned the climax for the last week of December, but Keerthi was working on her Tamil films and couldn’t adjust her dates. Also, we wanted to give music director Devi Sri Prasad time for re-recording, and hence the delay.” He adds that the team was never in a hurry to complete things.
“Content is the superstar and now slowly, Tollywood is starting to believe in good subjects. We believe in our film and I am confident that this film will entertain the audience,” says Nani. Female actresses who are starting off alongside Nani are becoming a hit and landing big projects. When asked about the same, Nani states, “Generally my dates are a problem as I am busy with multiple films. If we rope in a busy actress, it could be another problem and cost the production house. Since I don’t want to burden the producer, we rope in new actresses.”
Nani feels coming into the industry without any background is his good luck. “A real blockbuster is one where everyone, from a small technician to a distributor gets profits. The true success of a film is when every person involved is happy,” he says. The actor says that he is ready to play a negative role. “If someone comes with an interesting script where the negative role suits me, I will definitely take it up,” he says. When told that villains today are all bulked up, he says, “In the real world, most criminals and powerful persons look lean and use only their mind. Only in films we see villains with a six-pack. But that’s not a problem,” he jokes.
For now, the actor is busy with promotions of Nenu Local and will soon join the shoot of his next film. Amidst all this, he is waiting to become a father. How is he preparing for the moment? “It’s not sinking in as I still believe I am a kid! And now I am going to have a kid. I’m slowly digesting it,” says the actor, adding, “There is still four months time and I guess I will take things as they come.”
