I don't want to start afresh: Kay Kay Menon
After stellar performances in Bollywood, Kay Kay Menon is all set for his Telugu debut. The actor, who stunned everyone with his performance in Haider, will now star in India’s first submarine warfare Telugu-Hindi film Ghazi. And the actor is quite excited about the project.
The film is set during the 1971 Indo-Pak war and the story follows the mysterious sinking of the submarine PNS Ghazi off the coast of Vizag. While the Indian Navy stands by the fact that they sunk the submarine, Pakistan says that it sank because of a technical failure.
“The storyline is fantastic. Indians were fewer in number but we were able to handle the entire situation with ease,” says the actor who will be playing an Indian Naval commander Ranvijay Singh.
Menon says that the film’s set near Tank Bund is so authentic that it feels like a real submarine. “I’ve been very lucky to work with a team like this. Director Sankalp is so well-versed about the submarine that I didn’t need to do a lot of research for my role. Sankalp taught me all the technical commands and I simply followed orders,” he explains.
Menon, who will be sharing screen-space with Rana Daggubati, says that his Telugu debut was delayed because he never found the right script.
“I’m motivated by a good script, good money or a great role. If any of these are present then I will gladly take up the project. And I’m glad that I will be making my debut in the Telugu film industry with this project.”
And though he enjoys the process of working in a bilingual — he even learns his Telugu dialogues — Menon has no plans to shift from the Hindi film industry.
He says, “I’ve been part of the Hindi film industry for 20 years now. And I’m getting great roles there, I wouldn’t want to leave all that and start afresh. If projects come my way, I will take them up.”
With Ghazi’s shoot Menon is coming back to the city after 18 long years. “The last time I was here was for a shoot in 1998 for Bhopal Express, so it feels great coming back.”
