Following the heinous rape and murder of a veterinary doctor in the city,  several celebrities took to social media to express their shock and anger at the incident.

Comparing the culprits, who are still at large, to wild animals,  Anushka Shetty wrote, “Innocent #PriyankaReddy was raped & charred to death..This is a very tragic incident that shakes humanity. Even wild animals will feel ashamed if these criminals are compared to them....Is it a crime being a woman in our society. Let all of us fight for an immediate punishment to the culprits who are responsible for her death..My deep condolences to Priyanka Family #RIPPriyankaReddy (sic).”

Director Nandini Reddy also expressed concern over the safety of women. “Ashamed and appalled...so many years after Nirbhaya and women’s safety is still a prime concern. Apart from blaming authorities what have we as citizens done? Can’t believe not one person passing by the toll gate area noticed and offered help. #nocountryforwomen (sic),” she wrote.

Meanwhilem, actor Sesh Adivi called for decisive and swift action. “Our ability to look after our mothers, daughters and sisters determines our worth as a nation. And we are failing. I think of change.

But I don’t know what change to bring to remove such evil from the hearts of these monsters. Something needs to be done. And we are failing (sic),” wrote the anguished actor.
