A Telugu film on plight of Amaravati farmers?

The political potboiler is being produced by the Teluguone web portal and boasts of all new cast.

It seems that filmmakers are fascinated to make films on real-life issues. Along the lines of Bollywood director Vivek Agnihotri who made ‘The Kashmir Files’, Telugu filmmaker Bhanu Shankar is reportedly making a hard-hitting film ‘Amaravati Files’ to showcase the pain and anguish of thousands of farmers of Amaravati region in Andhra Pradesh. “The farmers in and around Amaravati began to protest against the state government led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s idea of changing the capital Amaravati, already identified and developed partially, to three capitals Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, and Kurnool for administrative convenience. Forcing families of ryots to hit the streets and stage demonstrations for over 600 days,” says a source.

Director Bhanu Shankar, who made films like ‘Raju Maharaju’, ‘Ardhanaari' and ‘RDX Love’, is dishing out a gripping saga to showcase the suffering of hapless farmers who gave away 33000 acres of their land under the Land Pooling Scheme for the construction of capital during the Telugu Desam Party regime. “Land pooling is an activity where a group of landowners hand over their land parcels to the government collectively for infrastructure development. Once the development is complete, the land is handed over to the original owners, after deducting some portion as the cost for the same,” he adds.

The political potboiler is being produced by the Teluguone web portal and boasts of all new cast since they didn’t want any familiar actors. "Freshness would have been lost, if they had roped in established actors, who would carry a baggage of their previous works. It is designed as a realistic and gripping story of hapless farmers against a mighty state
administration,” he concludes.
