Film producers should open branches in AP, say experts

Most producers pay tax to Telangana government for films screened in Andhra Pradesh. This is because their head offices are in Telangana

VISAKHAPATNAM: Experts in the field of the film industry, including exhibitors and theatre owners, have suggested that film producers and producers-cum-distributors open branches in Andhra Pradesh for pacifying the AP government that has been imposing strict restrictions on cinema ticket rates.

At present, most producers pay tax to Telangana government for films screened in Andhra Pradesh. This is because their head offices are in Telangana, sources said.

“Producers and actors like Dil Raju, Nagarjuna and Chiranjeevi must put up their business units in Andhra Pradesh itself,” said a Vizag film theatre owner and executive member of Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce.

Nearly 80 percent of tax revenue from film business is going to the TS government, while AP’s share is just 15–20 per cent, said another exhibitor.
