Producer Suresh Babu has been buying the remake rights of all the recent hit Hindi films. Starting with Ajay Devgn-Tabu-Rakul Preet starrer De De Pyar De followed by Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and now Ayushman Khurana’s Dream Girl, Suresh Babu wants to make these films in Telugu now. He has also bought the remake rights for few other hit Tamil and Malyalam films.
Rumour is the actor is having second thoughts on this film after Nagarjuna’s Manmadhudu 2 flopped, with the audience not appreciating the indecent humor in it.
For the remake of De De Pyar De, Suresh Babu’s brother, actor Venkatesh, was the obvious choice to play hero. But now we hear the brothers are wondering whether to make the film or not after actor Nagarjuna’s recent film Manmadhudu 2 — the storyline which is similar to De De Pyar De — tanked at the box office. The audience didn’t appreciate Nagarjuna’s vulgar comedy and the fact that a 60-year-old was falling in love with a heroine half his age.
Venkatesh too is in his late 50s, his clean image of acting in family dramas with decent humour is why his fans, both men and women, respect him for. So he doesn’t want to take a chance — where he’s seen lusting after a young, peppy heroine old enough to be his daughter in the De De Pyar De remake! “A large section of Venky’s fans are women and they like him because he hasn’t till date acted in any vulgar film. Since the storyline of Manmadhudu 2, and De De Pyar De is somewhat similar — with an extra dose of vulgar jokes in the former — the audience may not accept him in this role,” said a source. So Venky is in a dilemma! He doesn’t want to risk his image, though some are trying to convince him that Manmadhudu 2 was the remake of a French film, and the filmmakers took the liberty to add more “indecent humour”, hence it flopped.
De De Pyar De and Manmadhudu 2 have just one common point — a 50 years old hero, a divorcee, falling in love with a young girl. It can still be made like a entertaining family drama.
