Nani heartbroken as Suriya's Jai Bhim fails to win a National Award

Telugu actor Nani expressed his disappointment as Suriya's Jai Bhim failed to win any award at the 69th National Film Awards.

Taking to Instagram, he shared his feelings with a red heartbroken emoji. Suriya's courtroom drama, despite being a strong contender and one of the biggest blockbusters of 2020, did not clinch a single win in any of the nominated categories at the National Awards. This disappointment was shared not only by Nani but also by numerous fans.

Although Jai Bhim was nominated in the Best Film category, the award went to Manikandan's 2021 directorial, Kadaisi Vivasayi.

Suriya, who was nominated for Best Actor, also missed out on the award, similar to the previous year when he won the Best Actor Award for his performance in Soorarai Pottru. This year, the National Award for the Best Actor went to Allu Arjun for Pushpa: The Rise.

One reason attributed to Jai Bhim not securing any award the National Awards is the clean sweep made by Soorarai Pottru at the National Awards 2022. The film had a remarkable victory in five categories, including Best Film, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Music Director.

Despite the presence of strong films like Jai Bhim, Karnan, and Sarpatta Parambarai in the nominations, Tamil cinema did not dominate the awards. Manikandan's 2021 directorial, Kadaisi Vivasayi, won the Best Tamil Film award, while the late Nallandi received a Special Mention for his performance in the film. Actor-director Parthiban's Iravin Nizhal secured the Best Tamil Film at the National Film Awards.

Jai Bhim is a thought-provoking film based on true events from the 1990s in Tamil Nadu. Suriya portrayed the role of real-life advocate Chandru, who takes on the mission to uncover the truth and fight against all odds to bring justice to a tribal woman. The movie also features Lijomol Jose, Manikandan, Rajisha Vijayan, and Prakash Raj in prominent roles.
